Development of Biocompatible Magnesium Alloys and Investigations into their Degradation Behaviour

This research project deals with the development of an alloy for degradable implants based on magnesium. These implant materials shall be suitable for use in hard tissue (high strength) as well as in soft tissue (high ductility). The degradation process adapted to the component and its implantation area is adapted by different coatings and various material combinations. The alloys are tested in in-vitro and ex-vivo test systems concerning their biocompatibility in different types of tissues and are then transferred into in-vivo systems. Applications are for example paranasal sinus stents.
