Automatic control as one of the basic disciplines in mechatronics has become indispensable in a large variety of technical systems. The Institute of Automatic Control (IRT) focuses on research and application in this interdisciplinary subject. Besides theoretically-oriented research topics, applications in practice as well as the realisation of new methods in real-time mode play here an outstanding role. The IRT’s core competences concentrate on research work on bipedal walking machines (example video).
The IRT is part of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the Leibniz Universität Hannover. The IRT’s main research fields comprise
- control engineering solutions in the field of bipedal walking,
- real-time data processing,
- modelling and control of mechatronic systems,
- control theory, especially nonlinear systems as well as observer and filter design.
The IRT offers education in the field of automatic control for students coming from diverse study courses. Besides basic lectures, the curriculum includes special lectures in control theory and process control.
