IFW - Institute of Production Engineering and Machine Tools

The Institute of Production Engineering and Machine Tools (IFW) represents in a particular way the diversity of modern engineering. Our focus is laid on the research and application of all aspects around metal-cutting manufacturing from chip removal processes over machine tool design towards production planning and organisation. Our activities are characterised by a combination of experimental, theoretical and simulation-assisted research work.

In production engineering, mechatronic systems are applied in many fields. Besides novel machine concepts and components, the IFW also develops and tests innovative control methods for machine tools and chip removal processes. Here, the institute’s research and development activities focus on practice-related problems.

The IFW disposes of extensive state-of-the-art technical equipment in the field of machine tools, which is used for basic research as well as for joint projects with industrial partners. In the following, an extract of our technical equipment:
