IFUM - Institute of Forming Technology and Machines

The Institute of Forming Technology and Machines is involved in fundamental research work as well as in application-oriented research activities in the field of chipless forming technology. Besides the research on novel manufacturing processes, the focus is laid on the further development of approved forming methods towards innovative and flexible methods for sheet metal forming and massive forming as well as on the scientific research on how metal forming production processes can be optimised by simulation.

In this respect, mechatronic systems applied in machinery and peripherals play more and more an important role, since they considerably influence production flow, process limits, process quality and the amount of energy required.

One major research topic of IFUM is therefore the development of novel drive systems for a process-adapted machine and system technology, based among others on mechatronics, as well as the research on how these newly developed technologies influence the manufacturing processes.
